2.    Prepare your lawn by mowing the area. They help in cutting the grass extra short.

3.    Seeds germinate properly when the seeds make direct soil contact, but clippings and the previous grass restrict the germination, so it is necessary to rake the soil to remove dead grass clippings and debris before spreading the seeds.

4.    Rent or buy a core aerator from a local home-improvement store and run it over your lawn a few times. Drill small holes to make way for the nutrients, water, and air to pass through the grassroots.

5.    Choose the best quality seed product and purchase it. Kentucky bluegrass and turf-type tall fescue are still the best cool-season grass choices for home lawns.

6.    Overseed your lawn by spreading the seeds over the grass. The two main methods involved are Slit-seeding with a mechanical slit-seeder and Broadcast seed with a cyclone or drop-style seeder.

7.    Apply water thoroughly (two or four times a day) as consistent moisture is important to make your lawn look youthful.
